Spring is finally here and now is a wonderful time to see Red Top! Join us as we walk the Sweetgum Trail, on the lookout for the items on our Scavenger Hunt. Keep an eye out for butterflies, bees, ferns and frogs to name a few! We will explore around the lake, in creeks, over the hills and through the woods in order to find as many items as we can. Building a fire in the woods, be it for s'mores or in a survival situation, is a great skill to have. There are many methods, materials, and tools that one can use to start a fire. We'll discuss some different ways we can get a successful fire started and demonstrate a few of them for the group. $5 plus parking fee required. 770-975-0055.

Here at Red Top Mountain State Park, we like to teach people how to build shelters that they could use in different survival scenarios. The main objectives are staying warm, dry and comfortable. There is no way to predetermine the type of sticky situation you might find yourself in, so we like to cover different types. $5 plus parking fee required. 770-975-0055.

Orienteering is a fun and gratifying hobby that teaches you to navigate from one location to another with the use of only a map and a compass. It is great exercise and a wonderful way to explore nature. It also happens to be a very useful skill set that anyone can (and should!) learn.

At first, learning how to use a compass can be confusing... Especially if you do not have a good teacher. As luck would have it, we are fantastic teachers and can get you started off on the right foot! Learn the parts of a compass, how to follow a bearing, how to calculate distance based on your individual stride, and more. Parking fee required. 770-975-0055.
