Explore Lake Rutledge on this Ranger-Guided tour. As we scan the sky and woods for wildlife, and watch the changing colors on the water as the sun sets. Watch for meteors, planets, observe the moon or take in all the stars above as we gaze upon a truly dark sky from deep within the Okefenokee. We will use both our unaided eyes and telescopes while we stargaze. Stephen C. Foster State Park is one of the darkest places in the Southeast due to a lack of light pollution in the Okefenokee Swamp. $5 parking. 912-637-5274.

Meet at the Visitor Center as we race through the park guided only by solar lights and the moon. Enjoy Fort Yargo after dark on a guided moonlit hike by the lake each full moon of this year. This mile-long guided night hike is moderately difficult and goes down to the Civil War era textile mill ruins of New Manchester alongside the beautiful rapids of Sweetwater Creek.
