Cannon Ball Crater Hike

Some of the largest weapons of the civil war were naval artillery pieces known as Dahlgren guns. This ranger led hike explores an area of the park where these weapons have left numerous craters. This is a bushwhackers hike off of our trail system. Please where appropriate shoes and clothing for traversing natural areas. $2 plus $5 parking. 912-727-2339.
Herbarium

Join our rangers for a short 1/2 mile walk along our beautiful marshes and winding creeks and witness nature at its finest! Watch our flying friends take flight over the setting sun and learn about the world of bats. Hundreds of bats leave their houses every evening to hunt for insects. Learn about many tonics and remedies that doctors and surgeons of the past used to heal ailments and injuries during the Civil War. 155th Annual Winter Muster

This annual tactical demonstration commemorates the siege of the fort, the last battle of General Sherman’s March to the Sea. Cannon and musket firings, skirmishes, and drills will take place throughout the day. Visitors should arrive no later than 4 pm to view the Final Assault at 5 pm.
