Historic New Manchester Mill History Hike

Sweetwater Creek State Park - Lithia Springs, GA
This hike follows Sweetwater Creek down to the historic five-story Civil War era New Manchester mill with a Park Ranger. We will go inside the mill, as see in the "Hunger Games" film, is situated alongside the lovely rapids (up to class IV+) of the creek. This walking tour requires a moderate mile-long hike (total) down to the mill and back. $5 plus $5 parking. 770-732-5871.

The New Manchester Mill Grand Reopening

Join us in celebrating the restoration of the New Manchester Mill with free guided tours inside the mill. Park staff and Friends of Sweetwater Creek State Park volunteers will lead trips into the mill and share their knowledge of the park. $5 parking. 770-732-5871.
Candlelight Hike to the Mill

This mile-long guided night hike is moderately difficult and goes down to the Civil War era textile mill ruins of New Manchester alongside the beautiful rapids of Sweetwater Creek. Join us for a 2 and a half hour strenuous 1.5 mile hike focusing on the first inhabitants of our area, the Native Americans or American Indians, as we explore the east side which will include a visit to the "Indian Cave". Winter Tree Identification Walk

Ever wonder what all those incredible trees on the park trails are? This 1.5-mile ranger-led hike will cover identification by bark and habitats(what trees tend to grow near water, or on ridges, for example), and sorting out the leaves that are still left on the ground. Join park rangers on this nighttime excursion on the white trail, and listen and watch for these nocturnal birds of prey. Meet at the Interpretive Center for a moderate 2 mile hike.
