Home School Wednesday Kickoff Event

Homeschoolers will be provided with an opportunity to learn through participation a wide range of subjects that include geography, science, social studies, geology and history. This event will kick off Home School Wednesdays that we will make available throughout the year. $20 per student - Parents pay regular admission Ages 8-13 Call to sign up

9:00-9:30 Arrival/Welcome - Admissions
9:30-10:55 Tour of Site - Museum: Tour of Site - Museum - Students will view the Site Movie and have a guided tour through the Historic Site where President Roosevelt lived.

Compass Reading//Orienteering - A park ranger along with a former Green Beret will provide basic instruction in Compass reading and orienteering. Learn how to navigate without modern conveniences.
Blogging in the 30s:Can you "type" your name and address in under 2 minutes? Experience how all of the books and newspapers of the 30s and 40 were printed in this fun exercise.

Breakout Session: 1:00 p.m.- 1:55 p.m.
Location: Picnic Area Snake Identification - Spring is here and wildlife is beginning to move in the woods and our yards. Biologist Cindy Newman will show you how to identify snakes, both venomous and non-venomous, and how to be safe around snakes.

Breakout Sessions: 2:00 p.m.- 2:55 p.m.
Location: Grass Island
Basic Archaeology: Ranger Ashley will have students "Dig Through History" in this fun class designed to provide students with an understanding of how of past cultures lived.

End of Class and Presentation of Certificates 3:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Elective (Optional) Historic Pools and Springs Self Guided Tour 3:45 pm 1 mile

Subject areas covered by today's classes include but not limited to Social Studies, American History, World History, Geology/Geography, Ancestry, Artifact Conservation/Preservation, Arts & Crafts

Cost is $20 per student $12 regular admission per parent
