Home School Day - Historic Maps

This event has already occurred.

Status: Archived
Bring your 4th - 7th grade home-schooled students for a special look into our historic maps collection. We will contemplate the purposes for which maps can be drawn, participate in their own Land Lottery, and extract information directly from our collection of 18th and 19th century maps. Space is limited, so call to reserve your child’s place now.

To participate, you must call the Vann House to pre-register. Payment is accepted the day of the program. Call the Vann House with questions.

$4.75 per participating student
$6.00 per participating adult

This lesson is meant for grades 4-7. In order to help students focus on the class, we will provide a map activity for parents and their non-participating younger children.

We will cover reading a map’s scale, contemplate the purposes for which maps can be drawn, participate in their own Land Lottery, and extract information directly from our collection of 18th and 19th century maps. Participating students and adults will see a viewing of our 15-minute site film, and enjoy a brief tour of the house and grounds.

Outdoor picnic areas are available for family use.
