Home School Days at Fort Yargo Ages 9-12

Home School students ages 9-12 are invited to Fort Yargo for an hour of scientific fun! We will cover different topics each session that include but are not limited to: plant biology, wildlife sciences, stream ecology, fishing, and campfire cooking. $3 per student. Meeting locations will vary. Registration required

Please call the park office to register, 770-867-3489. Registration closes 5 days prior to the event date.Refunds can be given within one week of the program. $3 per student. If younger siblings participate in the activity parents will need to pay the fee for themselves too. Park pass required.

May 7th: Animal Tracks! How to identify wild animals by their tracks ad why they are important. After, students will make their own animal track using molds.
May 28th: Rodents! Students will learn more about the rodent family, explore rodents at Fort Yargo, and participate in a short craft/ activity.
June 26th: Macro Invertebrates. Test water quality by observing what critters are found underneath the surface. Be prepared to come into contact with bugs and frogs and get muddy. July 17th: Natural Springs! Learn more about how natural springs happen by building your own model. July 31st: Pollinators! It's almost time for the UGA Extension Office's Pollinator Census. During this program we will take a 1 mile hike and search for pollinators. Students will learn to identify various pollinators and construct a simple planter to take home. Meeting locations will be disclosed upon registering for the program.
