Homeschool Day: Birding, hiking, and dendrochronology

Wednesday, Jul 8, 2020 (9:30 AM to 11:30 AM)

Local birder Josh Spence and Ga Forestry Ranger Blake Lovell will be hosting the hikes, including an activity about dendrochronology, or the science of gauging the age of a tree by counting its internal rings. Call to pre-register for this ridiculously cool event. Bring your own binoculars for the optimal birding experience!

Homeschool Wednesdays will take place once a month and will cover many diverse topics about the people who have lived on the Vann Plantation and the daily activities they took part in. Programs will begin at 9:30 each morning and should be expected to run about 1.5-2 hours. After each program, feel free to use our outdoor picnic tables. You must call to pre-register! 706-695-2598. If you call to pre-register a large group, please have each student's name and age. Each program will be suitable for ages 6-16. Children 5 and under are the responsibility of a parent or guardian, and are not charged admission. Admission is $5.50 per student per program. Library passes will not be accepted for this program. Please be prepared to pay when you register.

May 6th, Archaeology Day: Learn about artifacts and how they get buried. We’ll show you the tools and steps archaeologists take to dig them up.
