Step into history this New Year’s Eve with a special guided hike through the beautiful grounds of Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation State Historic Site. Celebrate both the arrival of 2026 and the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding as we explore one of Georgia’s most treasured historic landscapes.
Stroll beneath centuries-old live oaks draped in Spanish moss, visit the plantation’s historic outbuildings, and end the evening with an exclusive tour of the plantation house interior. Along the way, hear captivating stories of five generations of the Dent family and the African Americans who lived and labored here, in both slavery and freedom. Discover ties to a signer of the Declaration of Independence and a Revolutionary War general among Hofwyl’s remarkable ancestors.
As the clock strikes midnight, gather to ring the plantation’s historic bell and toast the New Year with a glass of sparkling cider beneath the stars.
This event is part of the nationwide “First Day Hike” initiative, encouraging outdoor exploration and reflection. Participants will receive a commemorative sticker to mark the occasion.
