To complement our "Fall into Quilts" exhibit, we're hosting quilting and apple pressing demonstrations to be enjoyed during your visit to the Vann House. Apples have been a part of Cherokee culture since first introduced to the continent by European settlers. See a Dresden Flower quilt being crafted and taste fresh pressed cider.
In addition to your guided tour of the Vann House, admission on November 23rd will include quilting and apple cider pressing demonstrations. Come enjoy the beautiful autumn weather with us!
To complement our "Fall into Quilts" historic quilt exhibit (can be viewed through November) the Vann House quilters are sitting down at the frame to continue working their craft on the Friend's quilt, currently a Dresden Plate/Flower pattern.
Cider pressing has been a part of Cherokee life since the apple was first introduced to them by European settlers. Learn about the history of apples and taste fresh pressed apples.
From October till the end of November, we have put our large collection of handmade quilts, some vintage, on display for viewing during tours. Tour goers can admire the creativity and artistic skill of women who spent weeks and months cutting and sewing these gorgeous quilts together for their loved ones. We have quilts hand-made and donated from James Vann’s very descendants, quilts with patterns both familiar and complex, woven fabrics, even an antebellum quilt that was crafted by an enslaved person who once lived in Murray County.
Guests can participate in this program as part of regular admission. The 'Fall into Quilts' exhibit will be on display inside the Vann House until the end of November. The quilts can be seen on a guided tour, held hourly. Last tour of every day begins at 4p.m.
