Show & Tell - Diamondback Terrapin Hatchlings

Saturday, Sep 7, 2024 (10 AM to 11 AM)
Saturday, Sep 21, 2024 (11 AM to 12 PM)

Guest speakers from the Skidaway Audubon Diamondback Terrapin Rescue project will be sharing information about their efforts to help the population recover by relocating eggs to safer nesting boxes. Join us at the Interpretive Center for a Show & Tell to see the hatchlings and hear about this important project.

Please note the time change on September 21st. This program will now be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Thank you for your understanding. Diamondback terrapins are the only turtles that live in the brackish waters in the tidal marshes and creeks along the coast of Georgia. Now considered a "species of concern," the diamondback terrapin suffered from a decrease in population due to past over-harvesting. Presently, coastal development contributes to the destruction of their habitat. Additional threats include traffic and predators.
