Join our fellow watercolorists of all ages and skill levels, as we learn to paint one example of the beautiful plants and flowers that thrive in Smithgall Woods State Park. Found in our swamp bog, the simple but elegant Swamp Pink makes a delightful splash of color with an elegant form that begs to be painted.
Our teacher, Sheron Sherman, is a self taught artist living here in the area and is a member of the Sautee Naccoochee Watercolorists. Sheron also volunteers for Friends of Smithgall and has donated her work for its Cabin Fever campaign to raise money for a historic education cabin to be built at the park. Her work has been shown in several juried shows, both here and in Ft Myers, FL.
The technique you will be learning is called “masking” and involves taping off, or liquid masking of an area of a painting in order to preserve the white of the paper for later. Paper will be provided as well as masking tape. You will receive a list of other supplies including liquid masking fluid once you have enrolled and we suggest you bring a light snack and water because there will be no official lunch break.
There will be a step by step demo for those of you who are beginners and we will reserve 30 minutes time at the end of class for everyone to get feedback on their piece. We hope to have more of these classes going forward so that we can continue to introduce and paint the beauty of Smithgall Woods.
