FDR and The Spirit of Warm Springs

Saturday, Oct 4, 2025 (11 AM to 1 PM)

To commemorate the 101th anniversary of Franklin D. Roosevelt's first visit and swim, Ranger Ashley Aultman will be conducting a presentation covering the historical, geological, and therapeutic value of the warm springs. Presentations 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM

Franklin D. Roosevelt first visited Warm Springs, Georgia in October 1924, hoping to find a cure for the polio that had afflicted him three years prior. His first swim in the 88-degree spring water resulted in him being able to move his right leg for the first time in three years. This experience led to his purchase of the resort and the establishment of the Georgia Warm Springs Foundation, a rehabilitation center for polio patients.
