The Georgia Appalachian Trail Club (GATC) is proud to kick off A.T. Gateways weekend (February 27–March 1, 2026) with a free special Sneak Peek screening of the documentary A Life Reimagined: The George Masa Story. The film will be shown on Friday, February 27 at 6:30pm in the Conference Room area (downstairs) of the Lodge at Amicalola Falls State Park.
George Masa (Appalachian Trail Hall of Fame, 2018) was a Japanese immigrant and visionary photographer whose images and advocacy played a vital role in the creation of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Today, 72 miles of the Appalachian Trail traverse the park’s high ridges along the North Carolina–Tennessee state line, including the Trail’s highest point at Clingmans Dome (recently renamed Kuwohi).
This special Sneak Peek is presented courtesy of filmmaker Paul Bonesteel in cooperation with GATC. Following the screening, Bonesteel, an Asheville, North Carolina–based filmmaker known for documentaries exploring American history and culture, will host a Q&A session with the audience.
The event runs from 6:30–8:30pm. We hope you’ll join us for this inspiring evening celebrating the legacy of George Masa and the landscapes he helped protect.
