As fall arrives, Black Bears enter hyperphagia, spending their days searching for food to prepare for winter. Join us in this 50min program to learn how hikers, campers, and visitors can safely share the outdoors with bears through proper food storage, litter management, and Leave No Trace practices. Find us at the campground picnic pavilion!
What are our American Black Bears up to during the fall season?
As the leaves change and temperatures drop, we humans love to get outdoors, visit our local state parks, go camping, and enjoy all that the season has to offer. Fall is a busy time for our Black Bears, too! They are entering hyperphagia, a period when bears become increasingly active as they search for and consume large amounts of food to prepare for the winter months.
This makes fall a great time to learn how we can do our part to coexist with our native wildlife. Join us to learn about Leave No Trace principles, proper food storage, litter management, and how to safely enjoy the outdoors while minimizing interactions with Black Bears.
Whether you're a hiker, camper, or day visitor, this program will help you better understand our local bears and discover simple ways we can all help keep both people and wildlife safe.
Find us at the Campground Picnic Pavilion at 6:00 PM!
