Long before the arrival of the British in Georgia and South Carolina, other European powers began exploring the southern coasts. Spain, from La Florida, and France, before Louisiana, sought to control the Golden Isles. Colonies were created and destroyed. They traded with Native tribes and documented their lives. These are their stories.
