Who built the original house? Hike with a Ranger to learn the mysterious story and see the possible location of the 1804 house as we look for birds and identify fun plants. Trail is 1-mile round trip, unpaved and medium level difficulty. Leashed dogs welcome. First Day Hike sticker included! Site closes after hike and brief house tour.
editSite opens at 9:30am, an optional brief guided tour of the house will take place after the Hike, included in admission. Dress for the weather and an unpaved trail. Leashed dogs are welcome. Admission is $5.25 for senior citizens, $6 for youth, $7 for adults.
We'll begin at the Visitor Center and hike 0.5 mile to the location of the 1800's God's Acre Cemetery and 0.5 mile return on the same path. The site will close after the hike and brief tour for the remaineder of the day to re-open at 9am on Saturday, January 2nd.
As we hike we will discuss the possibility that the existing house was not the original house. Potentially, the 1804 James Vann House does not exist anymore, and we can theorize it's original location based on the evidence supplied in the Moravian diaries. We'll also listen for birds, identify native and invasive trees, look for tracks, and see what we see as we head to the location of the hsitorical cemetery.
